Be transported to southern Italy as you learn to make tomato passata the traditional way, in season and in celebration, with Teresa and Angela from Mangia! Mangia!
Set in the beautiful backdrop of the Museo Italiano's courtyard, in the heart of Carlton, you will feel like you were transported back to a village in southern Italy.
We welcome you with a fortifying coffee and platters of biscotti before assembling to make tomato passata the traditional way. From purchasing and preparing the tomatoes, to creating the puree and ending with bottling and pasteurisation – you will learn our families' secrets and techniques and be inspired to begin your own annual passata making ritual. This is a hands-on day where all are encouraged to get involved.
Then, in true Mangia! Mangia! style, we will gather for lunch to enjoy platters of antipasto, good bread and, of course, pasta served with fresh sugo to celebrate the making of another year's supply of this essential ingredient. The event is fun, informative and ideal for lovers of quality seasonal food and those who enjoy coming together with family and friends to create something enduring and special.
Teresa and Angela from Mangia! Mangia! and the Museo Italiano have partnered to preserve this rich cultural food ritual.
